Magnetic Fields

so i went to the Magnetic Fields show last night here in Vancouver. I went early so i could get good seats. About 10 minutes after i arrived i looked back to see how full the place was getting and i saw something so unbelievably stupid it almost made me vomit. Some art chick with horned rimmed glasses was sitting there knitting. yep... you heard it right. KNITTING!!! I could understand if it was a Belle and Sebastian show or something but give me a fucking break. Leave that shit at home!
oh, and in case you're wondering, the show wasn't very good. Too much "69 Love Songs" not enough "Holiday". But that knitting shit just really killed the evening.

Election - Dallas

While in the Dallas airport today, I was honoured enough to sit two tables away from a soldier departing for a new tour of duty in Iraq, named Rocky, and his parents. The first words that caught my attention were comments about another soldier the family knew: "what the fuck does he know about war, he's 50 miles away and I'm shooting these fucking faggots face to face". Rocky only said "Iraqis" a couple of times, the rest of it was "faggots". He then got on his cell phone talking to a friend. Topics included that Rocky regreted that the knife that he brought back for the friend didn't have attached to it what was intended: "...let's just say remains. I had to wash it off with hooch, it took 3 days. Customs is really strict on that shit." From there: "I got a story for you. I can't talk about it right now, and you can't talk about it after I tell you. Let's just say I gave the locals a hello from America".
Not much scares me, but this guy did. He confessed war crimes within feet of me. And his cowboy hat dad was getting a fucking kick out of it. You know, this all comes down to that Americans will get what they deserve, what a legitimate majority of them believe in, who a legitimate majority of them are. Bush is their elected president.

Election - Guatemala

I was in Guatemala City the night of the election, and was ready to post an off-the-wall tirade about the death of the american empire and shit. But in the days since I've more thought about the grinding poverty I saw in the interior of Guatemala and the fact that a struggling well-intentioned fledgling state can't even support a proper police force or environmental ministry, and that so little capital would be needed to set them on a developmental path.
I'm saying that too many right-minded people are focused on Bush and wasting too much time doing it (myself included). There are much much more important things to accomplish than fixating on the fate of American power or it's people.
