Mathers2

Watch this video!, on a day where a British Journal working with US universities has estimated the Iraqi death toll at 100,000. Whether or not that number is accurate, it doesn't matter. Go ahead and elect him again, you red state crackers.

King of the Alternate Versions

John Peel of BBC Radio 1 died today. Sucks.
North Americans never really got a chance to hear his show with any regularity, just the odd bootleg or mp3. But I think everyone understands that he was always willing to spin new bands right until the end. Little known fact, he played Sam off of On Point Red on his show at least once that we know of.

Marshall Mathers

I really never saw it coming, that Eminem would become the lightning rod of political outrage and calls to insurrection. Long fucking overdue. Music artist opposition to Bush Sr was thick, especially in Paris (rapper), Ministry and the Disposable Heroes of Hiphorisy. But Eminem on Mosh and some of We As Americans gets as raw as anything I've ever heard... I don't think he's just goofing around this time either.

Dear America,

If you're going to impose your ideals on other countries then why can't we all vote on your fictitious election. Why? because W would be fuckin out of there. Please America, vote... fucking vote!!! if you elect John Kerry there is still hope for democracy.

Lament Drives Action

Check out Gustavo Santaolalla's "De usuahia a la quiaca" from the Motorcycle Diaries soundtrack. Probably better if you see the movie first, but the song is unbelievable on its own. A lot of attacks on the Che Guevara legacy in the press discussion of this movie...that's because if the legions of minimum wage service workers in North America ever grabbed hold of his myth like is done elsewhere in the world, the ruling power would have their fucking hands full.

Post-,Post-,Post-

Acclaimed French philosopher Jacques Derrida died today. His writing is basically impenetrable, and I would never claim to understand really any of it...something about additional hidden layers of meaning behind the structures of words and text and language. Anyway, it is rare that a philospopher comes along and actually has an impact with the new things they have to say. Maybe won't even happen again, who knows...tough competition to get people's attention these days.
On another note, Australia: democratic leadership is about accountability, not just economic performance. See you on the other side.

Executions in Iraq

Ken Bigley is the latest victim.
from CNN: "Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, speaking to reporters earlier Friday, condemned the killing of Bigley as 'barbaric murder.'"
So i guess dropping bombs on the women and children of Iraq is totally fine then eh Mr. Straw? You wanna talk Barbaric? take a look at the civilian death toll in Iraq.
I wonder if ole jackie boy thinks it's Barbaric when his pals in the USA execute their prisoners too?

Vancouver and The Desert Island

Finally uploaded two of the recent articles/interviews. First is an interview in the Big Takeover. Second is a surprisingly flattering article from Stylus.
I think we're going to have to retool the Press section. Navigation sucks.
We're going to start updating the links on the right to places that actually seem to have On Point's left.
