Only a few times a year do I come across a song that has an immediate and visceral emotional impact, that makes you want to drop everything and get on the next departing plane. The last one was Ulrich Schnauss' "In All the Wrong Places". But as of yesterday, it's Sun Kil Moon's "Gentle Moon". Too many moons going on there, but the chorus will fuck you up.

We're playing a show at this joint on March 19th in Vancouver. We'll be playing lots from the new record, but the new record won't be ready for sale. All recorded, mixed and mastered, now its in Endearing's hands. Track listing will be posted soon.

The Green Party put forward a number of really progressive ideas in the 2000 election campaign. I'm thankful for that and for the introduction of greater plurality into the US poitical system. Unfortunately, Nader produced vote splitting in the left and allowed Bush to steal the election. This time EVERYONE should be working together and doing anything they can to get rid of Bush, probably the worst president in the last 100 years. Normally, I'd welcome choice, but this time the status quo is too severe and the world is literally at stake. Solidarity is the best tactic to rid the world of this bastard administration. Nader to run.

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately... about why no album released in the last 10 years has had the same effect on me as say a "Slowdive - Souvlaki" or a "Ride - Going Blank Again" did. Could it be that music just doesn't do it for some of us like it used to? or could it be just because i heard those records when i was young and impressionable? That's not to say that i haven't liked anything released in the last 10 years. I have. There have been some fantastic releases. Some of them i absolutely adore. But let's face it... will anything ever come close to a Boo Radleys' "Everything is Alright Forever" or a MBVs' "Loveless"? For me, i don't think anything ever will. And that's god dam sad.

I dig Conan and Triumph is fuckin funny, but Americans overcompensating by dissing anything French (in this case, Quebec) is getting tired. Even The Daily Show has gotten in on the act. "You're cowards, you're gay, you stink, you can't speak English"...zzzzzzzzz. I can't help but think if the war in Iraq had gone better, the anti-French attitudes among the cooler American demographic might have never appeared.
It's hard to admit you were wrong.

Stylus Magazine's Ian Mathers wrote this mini-treatise on The Dramatic Balanced last week. Pretty much a definitive take on the record.

Flew in to O'Hare last night. The view of Chicago from above was one of the most amazing things i've ever seen. I took some quick snaps from the window of a Boeing 747.

A new Canadian magazine called The Walrus is into its third issue and looks set to establish itself as a good forum for diverse commentary on politics, art, architecture, and society. Much more than a place to articulate Canadian perspectives ( though it is this ), The Walrus has so far presented itself as international in scope, with writers from outside North America offering commentary on transnational and non-Canadian national issues and curiosities. Apart from encouraging interesting writing and commentary, it doesn't appear to have an over-arching agenda; it's there to be held or torn from issue-to-issue. Check it out.

Last of the new tracks are finished. Members of the Board have taken an interest in some remixes while the album is mastered. The production finesse of DT and the strong work of Muut Poignt on the violin have worked a charm on one track so far.
