The outgoing Governor of Illinois has pardoned the state's entire death row. The US is pretty much the last industrialized state to continue with the practice of executing prisoners. For me, it always comes down to the fact that the death penalty = committing the same crime that is being punished...lowering the state to the level of the criminal, the murderer...
