I figured it all out last night! The movie Armageddon is the reincarnation of Leni Riefenstahl's Nazi propoganda films. Bruckheimer is selling heroic American nationalism and consumerism just like 'Triumph of the Will' was pitching heroic aryan nationalism and the economic order of that day, fascism. The Americans were finally defeated in international basketball. (three times this week!) And the World Championship final is between Argentina and Yugoslavia. See the irony? America's game nabbed by one country that is dying under heavy (US-endorsed) IMF austerity measures and another one that got the shit bombed out of it by the US 4 years ago. The PM of Canada announced there will be a vote to ratify Kyoto before year's end, sending a big Fuck Off to the Bush Admin.
