Just watched the movie Bob Roberts (1992) for the first time in a long time...was thinking, for all Clinton's faults we should all be very thankful that he was charismatic enough to derail that runaway train that was the Republican Party/Christian Coalition in the early 90's. Those animals were more out of control than usual back then.
I still remember the 1991 Republican National Convention: build a wall between the US and Mexico; no abortions under any circumstances; no homosexuals in the military; mandatory school prayer...
Some more Clinton magnetism would be useful right about now.

How fucking repugnant is this?? The Bush Admin is witholding its share of funding for a UN agency that's raison d'etre is to provide women in developing nations with information and services related to reproduction and responsible family planning. Why block the funding? Because of some trumped up bullshit about participating in Chinese forced sterilization. The real reason: the abomindable US pro-life lobby. Read and gag here.

You know what?...Me and Arch realized today that we've completely forgotten about Mogwai.

In honour of the sub-monumental achievement of passing the 3000 plays mark at MP3.com, thought it might be moderately interesting to share some of the comments up there about our songs. These are taken from MP3.com "radio stations".
The Block Alone:
"beautiful song by a bunch of slackers from Vancouver!"
"Equal parts shoegaze and New Order - blend, stir, serve cold on ice."
"This Vancouver band has such a compelling sound. Influenced by the Joshua Tree? Makes me want to take a road trip."
"Upbeat Jesus and Mary Chain is the best way to describe them. Yes, I said upbeat."
No Longer Ortona:
"Wow, what a great mellow vibe. Almost a sleepy song, but with a happy undercurrent."
"Swirling Cure-esque synths, nice male vox with some good harmonies here and there and driving acoustic guitar."
Following A Typewriter To Sleep:
"hum along."

Our set last night was virtually fuck-up free and the joint was unexpectedly jammed. Our first show in almost two years.
Commend the endurance of all people who went the distance to a 2 AM conclusion on a Wednesday night.
Readymade will be returning to the stage again in 2004.

1. I can't think of anything cooler than being reviewed by a Spanish publication. For real, Bilbao, Seville, Donostia...each is a paradise. Canciones Huerfanas. Translations welcome.
2. From the Manitobian..."Boys – listen up. If you want to seriously get anywhere with that cute girl, take her out, end the evening back at your place and put this disc on"...So I wonder what that means for those of us who actually wrote that disc?? Nothing apparantly.
3. And a review of the Block Alone 7 " from a few years back from a Minnesota fanzine called Pretty Bruises.

As has been mentioned on this site numerous times, Readymade once lived in this old mansion with another band, Pipedream. Pipedream released some unbelievable records, but have since parted ways. Dr. Roberts and dt now do solo stuff and play with Readymade. The 3rd member of Pipedream, Jeremy Schmidt, has now released a record for his solo thing, Sinoia Caves. (available here) I'm not even going to attempt to describe it, but I think I'm safe in saying it is heavily atmospheric, synth-oriented and referential to a particular musical genre of the 1970's. We'll try and rip a track and get it up on the site soon. It is a VERY good record.
